Cruise vacations, planned by a real advisor

Sources checked . Final review by Sean Williams pending.

Egretline connects you with advisors who plan ocean cruises from start to finish: picking the cruise line, ship, cabin and departure port, checking your documents, and budgeting for costs the fare leaves out, such as gratuities, port parking and drinks. Florida's five cruise ports are a short drive or flight for most U.S. travelers.

Who is a cruise a good fit for?

A cruise suits travelers who want to see several places without repacking, and families or groups who want dining and entertainment in one place. It suits people less well if they get seasick easily or want long, unhurried days in one town.

Choose a cruise if you want several destinations in one trip and a predictable daily rhythm. Choose an all-inclusive resort if you want to unpack once and stay put.

How does an Egretline advisor help plan a cruise?

Your advisor narrows the field to the lines and ships that fit your group, then compares cabins, itineraries and total cost, not just the fare. The advisor also checks documents, port arrival times, parking and flights, and stays your contact if the itinerary changes.

Which Florida port should I sail from?

Pick the port that has your ship and is easiest for you to reach. Florida's five cruise homeports each have an Egretline guide: Port Tampa Bay, PortMiami, Port Canaveral, Port Everglades and JAXPORT.

What does a cruise really cost beyond the fare?

Add up the fare plus port fees and taxes, daily gratuities, travel to the port, parking or a hotel the night before, drinks, Wi-Fi, excursions and travel insurance. Our cruise budget guide walks through each line item with published rates.

When is the best time to cruise the Caribbean?

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with activity peaking around September 10, according to NOAA. Our guide to the best time to cruise the Caribbean explains the trade-offs month by month.

What documents do I need for a cruise?

For a closed-loop cruise, U.S. citizens can re-enter with a government-issued photo ID and proof of citizenship, according to CBP. A passport is the safer choice. See our passport guide.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a passport for a Caribbean cruise from Florida?
For a closed-loop cruise that leaves and returns to the same U.S. port, CBP lets U.S. citizens re-enter with a government-issued photo ID plus proof of citizenship such as a birth certificate. A passport is still recommended, because you need one to fly home if you miss the ship or have an emergency abroad.
Is a cruise cheaper if I book through a travel advisor?
Cruise lines generally pay agencies a commission out of the fare, so booking through an advisor does not normally add to the fare itself. Ask whether any planning fee applies before you commit.
What is not included in a cruise fare?
Fares usually cover your cabin, main dining and many onboard activities. Daily gratuities, port fees and taxes, specialty dining, most drinks, shore excursions, Wi-Fi and port parking are usually extra.
How early should I get to the cruise port?
Arrive within the check-in window your cruise line assigns. Lines typically close boarding a set time before departure, and missing it means the ship leaves without you.
Should I fly in the day before my cruise?
If you are flying to the port city, arriving the day before gives you a buffer against delays and cancellations. A same-day flight leaves no room if something goes wrong.
